Cavern Of Anti-Matter journey off on a new modular motorik journey. This, the third LP from the group is another immaculately composed 70s funk regression session of liquid library sounds, minimal guitar melodies and blood drums that weave in and out of themselves to form an autobahn soundtrack as multi-tiered in layers as it is rich with swirling exotica textures.
Much like the widely adored void beats / invocation trex circa 2016 and its precursor Blood Drums (last seen as a lavish reissue on Duophonic), Hormone Lemonade started life as some psych sketches, flowing out of a (we'd imagine) rather smoky session of self-constructed rhythm machine jams by band member Holger Zapf, armed with a check list of gear that consisted of amongst other things the Taktron Z3, Taktron Z2 plus the Hohner and Eko drum machines. Tim Gane took these sounds and edited them into what he describes as "useable chunks and proceeded to overdub each new rhythmic ‘chunk’ with some basic musical ideas, keeping in tune to the hum of the machines and retaining the ‘feel’ of the inherent pulse".
While we tried to go as long as we could in writing this without mentioning Tim Gane's role in Stereolab (and don't get us wrong, we adore them!) it's going to fall to many to draw the comparisons between the 'Lab sound and these new cavernous explorations. While there are lines to draw between each group, Cavern Of Anti-Matter is its own individual and strikingly unique project and should be enjoyed as such.
